Geelong Wine Region
The Geelong wine region is one of great history being one of the first regions in Victoria
to be planted.
Developed by the Swiss immigrants with vine cuttings from Tasmania,
Switzerland and France, during the 1850’s Geelong was the largest and most
significant wine region in Victoria.
Unfortunately though in the late 1890’s
it all stopped due to Phylloxera, but in the early 1960’s vines again where
being planted in abundance and now the region in well and truly alive and
well again with Chardonnay, Shiraz and Pinot Noir the main varieties being planted.
With
the likes of Bannockburn, Curlewis and Belbrae estate leading the way with
national recognition no wonder it is one of Australia’s most exciting wine
regions.
